Reflexology, or compression foot massage, is a natural art of healing, a drugless way of stimulating the internal organs, thereby increasing the circulation and restoring bodily functions to normal.

Reflexology is a unique method of using various thumb, finger and hand techniques to apply pressure to specific areas. This stimulation improves nerve and blood supply and relaxes muscles helping to normalize various body functions.

It has been proven that 75% of our health problems can be linked to nervous stress. Reflexology alleviates tension by clearing crystalline deposits under the skin which impede the natural flow of the body’s energy. When these crystals are broken up the body begins eliminating stored toxins that it was unable to process previously.

When we are stressed or after illness the body is in a state of “imbalance”. Sensitive areas on the feet indicate which parts of the body are congested. The human body works as a unit. When one part is affected, the entire body suffers because of it.

The gentle massage action of Reflexology is an aid to the healing process and is also considered preventative care that contributes to good health by stimulating the body’s natural healing power and strengthening the body’s immune system.

History of Reflexology

5000 Years Ago ~ Reflexology was known as early as 5000 years ago in India and China, then was set aside as acupuncture took hold. Their roots are identical as written in the Yellow Emperor’s Book of Internal Medicine.

2330 BC ~ (Picture at left)Early 6th dynasty Egyptian Reflexology Treatment. Wall painting in tomb of Ankhmahor at Saqqara, known as the physician’s tomb. Evidence was found that the Egyptian culture practiced Reflexology. Also, the North American Indians used pressure on the feet to relieve pain.

1500’s ~ Cellini, a Florentine sculptor, used pressure on his fingers and toes to relieve pain in his body.

1834 ~ Pehi Henrik Ling, from Sweden, noticed relationships with pains in organs reflected in certain areas of the skin.

1800’s ~ An English neurologist discovered Head Zones and therapeutic anesthesia was born.

1881 ~ President J.A. Garfield applied pressure to his feet to alleviate pain following an attempted assassination.

1900’s ~ Dr. William Fitzgerald, an ear, nose and throat specialist in Connecticut, USA, replaced the use of cocaine
for anesthesia with pressure on parts of the body. He also discovered the longitudinal zones in the body correlating
them to the hands, feet and face.

1916 ~ Dr. Edwin F. Bowers publicly described Dr. Fitzgerald’s treatment, christening the science Zone Therapy.
